Heart of Being Courses

Heart of Being 'CYCLE OF LIFE' - METAL

This course occurs during its associated season of Autumn. The series focusses on the Metal element's dynamics, its relationship to other elements and with Yin&Yang. It will concentrate on cultivating Qi, the vital life energy in the body, which the Metal element governs.
As metal is such a compact and dense element it represents all things solid and pertaining to the earthly physical reality. This includes our body and what is directly related to it such as our animal nature. Described as Po in the Chinese tradition it relates to our bodymind; our instinctive, natural and animal aspects.

Qigong and similar physical and energetic practices activate the vitality of the Po which is Qi. This is the life force flowing in our energy channels and body in general. It is moved and invigorated by breath, sound and movements which we concentrate on in this course. Metal is a very basic principle of our existence as human beings yet absolutely essential. If we hope to feel part of this physical realm and the natural world, we need a deep contact to our animal nature. Without it we lose sense of whom or what we truly are and can lose ourselves in our mental world. In our day and age we have a great need to reconnect with this simple yet essential aspect of our being.

So in these sessions we will be working with a range of approaches that facilitate contact with our body and our Po: the animal soul within us. A deeper connection with our simple natural state occurs once we embrace our ancestral heritage which originated from what is encoded within our genes and collective psyche.

Qigong breathwork, Zen meditation, grounding exercises, dynamic movement, dance, voice work, letting go of our rational thinking mind, sensing and reflecting upon our sensory experiences and surrendering to nature; all these can be used as resources to facilitate a deeper and genuine connection to Metal element.
